Police Verification in Passport Application Process
The Police Verification is a critical step in the Passport Application process and thus should be done with utmost carefulness.
There 3 primarily important modes of the police verification process;
- Pre Police Verification i.e. before the issue of the passport.
- Post-Police Verification i.e. after the issue of the passport.
- No Police Verification
The Pre-Police Verification in the majority of the cases happens once the Passport office of India checks the validity of all the documents and before the issue of the passport. Here, the Passport office sends the address details and contact details of the applicant to the nearest possible police station to verify your identity and confirm your presence. The candidate needs to be present with all the address proof and other details which the police officer has to confirm. Once the identity and address are confirmed, the same is forwarded to the Passport office of India to proceed with passport application process completion.
The Post-Police Verification is another way where the passport office can conduct verification on you, this is generally done for Government and other PSU Employees that submit The No Objection Certificate through Form “M” of the Annexure. The applicants have their Passports issued to them before the police verification and thus may be subject to post-Police Verification for the Passport Application process. Last year in the month of August, the Government had stated that police verification is not required for issuance of passports. The mPassport Police application has been launched by the External Affairs Ministry for quick submission of the verification report.
No Police Verification is a very special case where the passport office of India thinks that there is extremely no need for police Verification for Passport Application process completion. A good example of this would be government or PSU employees who submit a document called “Identity Certificate” under annexure “b” need not be verified via the police verification process.
